The Coastal Plain League released its schedule for the 2025 season this morning. Playing its 29th summer of action in 2025, the league will again be comprised of 15 teams across Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
Opening Day will be Thursday, May 29 — one week later than a year ago. The regular season will run through Saturday, August 2 with playoffs following after. For the first time in league history, the CPL will not feature a split-season look. This move should allow for more flexibility amongst teams for making up postponed games as matchups can now be moved across the full summer calendar.
“We are excited to unveil the 2025 Coastal Plain League schedule, which promises to deliver another great summer of competitive baseball across all our markets,” said CPL Commissioner Chip Allen. “Each year, we strive to create an unforgettable experience for our fans, players, and communities, and this season is no exception. With a strong lineup of teams and key matchups, the 2025 season will showcase the best of collegiate summer baseball.”
Like a year ago, the league will feature two divisions — East and West. The East will be comprised of Greenville, Holly Springs, Morehead City, Peninsula, Tri-City, Wilmington, and Wilson. Meanwhile, the West will feature Asheboro, Boone, Florence, Forest City, High Point-Thomasville, Lexington County, Macon, and Martinsville. Overall, each team will play a 48-game regular season with the CPL’s 25th All-Star Game being hosted by the Macon Bacon on July 6-7. Additionally, fans can look forward to more travel out-of-division in 2025 as each team will make at least one road trip to face two opponents from the opposite division.
At the conclusion of the regular season, the league will feature a new playoff format with six teams qualifying. In all, there will be three rounds, with the first being a single-elimination round, while the next two rounds are best-of-three series. The top three teams based on highest overall winning percentage in both the East and West divisions will be seeded 1-3. The top seed in both the East and West will have a bye in the first round as well as receive home field advantage in the second round. Seeds 2 and 3 in each division will face one another in a one-game wild card round hosted by the 2-seeds on August 3. The winners of the wild card will then play the top seeds and host game 1 of that series, August 5-7. The two division champions will then advance to the overall championship series (August 9-11) with the lower seed hosting game 1, while games 2 and 3 (if necessary) are hosting by the higher seed.
